Waldo native Juan Minniefield made his second trip to Washington D.C. since May where he met with ambassadors from Niger and Mali to forge cultural and economic connections with southwest Arkansas. Minniefield, who currently resides in California, has made multiple trips to the nations’s capital over the past few years in an attempt to connect with African nations and their embassies in hopes of in-fluxing jobs and growth to his hometown.

“The timber and farming industry near Waldo offers so much opportunity,” he told the Banner-News after his most recent trip to D.C. “I’m out here trying to help.”

Minniefield also ran for mayor of Waldo in 2014 and 2018.
