It seems a lot of us still haven’t grown accustomed to referring to a particular year as 20-something instead of talking about years in the nineteens, yet here we are already about to wind up 2018.
At this time we hope all of you have had a memorable and enjoyable 2018 and experience a wonderful 2019.
As we look back on the year now as it ticked down to its final hours, there’s no denying it has been an eventful one.
Regardless of where people are on the political spectrum, most would agree that 2018 has been a year of significant, sometimes tumultuous, events. So it might be fitting politically to finish out the year with last week’s 11th hour partisan battle that resulted in a partial government shutdown.
But, whatever happens, as we head into the new year it is with the knowledge and confidence that our nation continues to persevere and thrives, meeting whatever challenges come our way,
When we celebrate New Years Eve and welcome in 2019, we can do it with the knowledge that South Arkansas has dealt with all the challenges that have hit us over the past few decades and it seems we’re ready to forge ahead on solid ground.
Nationally, unemployment is down and the economy has rebounded. It might be premature to burst out singing that old campaign refrain, “Happy Days Are Here Again,” but there’s plenty of reason to be optimistic about what next year has in store for all of us.
So we join with all of our South Arkansas friends in raising a toast and a rousing greeting of “Happy New Year.”
