An onslaught of wet weather making for extra spongy ground conditions caused an adult pine tree to uproot and fall Friday afternoon near the corner of Gean Street and S. Lakewood in Magnolia. The tree, estimated to be at least 50-feet in height, blocked traffic at Gean Street until the mess could be cleared. The tree's mass, combined with few, if any deep roots and a soft foundation were too much to keep the pine from toppling.

Magnolia Police were first called to the scene at around 12:40 p.m. By 1 p.m., multiple officers as well a member of Magnolia Fire Department formed a safety perimeter around the accident scene. The local street department then began sawing the tree into pieces to again open the road for neighborhood traffic.
