Panthers playing again at 8:30 tonight

MENA - Top-seed Magnolia (19-4) will play in next week’s Class 4A State Tournament at Panther Arena after winning in the first round of regional play Wednesday night.

“No matter what happens now, we get to go home and play in front of our home crowd,” Panthers’ head coach Dyun Long said following the 62-46 win over Mena. The Panthers used a strong fourth quarter to pull away from the Bearcats.

Magnolia looks to improve its state seeding tonight in the Class 4A South Region Tournament, beginning at 8:30 p.m.

“The main goal was to win that first one. Now, we have to do it all over again. It’s one game at a time,” said Long. Derrian Ford led with 23 points, while Kadyn Roach and Colby Garland added 11 apiece. The championship game is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, after a consolation game that’s set for 1:30 p.m.

In Class 1A region at Bradley, the Nevada Blue Jays flew over Caddo Hills 65-43 and play again at 8:30 tonight. The Emerson Lady Pirates sailed past Ouachita 54-40 and play at 7 p.m. this evening.in a nonconference matchup before hosting Harding in a three-game GAC series this weekend.
