The National Merit Scholarship Program has now determined which of the 16,000 Semifinalists named in September 2018, have met all requirements to advance to Finalist standing in the competition.

Mariah Guevara, a senior at Magnolia High School, has been notified by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation that she has been named a Finalist in the 64th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

NMSC, a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual national Merit Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC’s own funds and approximately 410 business organizations and higher education institutions that share NMSC’s goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.

The selection of some 7,500 Merit Scholarship winners from the group of more than 15,000 Finalists is now in progress. In March, NMSC will mail scholarship offers to those winners. As a Finalist, Mariah received a Certificate of Merit, from Magnolia High School counselor, Tracy Card.

Mariah is the daughter of Debbie and Roger Guevara.
