Magnolia’s Kisi Young, who helped guide a Kansas team to a junior college national championship last season, has helped SAU get off to a good basketball start this year.

Other than a GAC conference opener loss to Henderson State, the Lady Muleriders are currently 5-1 on the year and 1-1 in league play.

They won a total of three games all of last season.

After six games, the former Lady Panther is averaging 8.2 points per contest, 7.0 rebounds and shooting 53 percent from the field.

Her best game as a Lady Mulerider came during last week’s 91-74 win over Missouri S&T.

She scored 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting and was 3-for-3 on free throws, as well as grabbing eight rebounds.

She has been the team’s leading rebounder in three of the six games played, grabbing a season-high 12 in the win over Lincoln, MO.

Young has snagged eight or more rebounds in four games.

She and the Lady Muleriders will travel to Arkadelphia Saturday to face the OBU Lady Tigers.

Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.

Though the conference season is just beginning, the Lady Muleriders are one of four teams with 1-1 records, while four others are 2-0 on the season.

OBU is among the four teams that have lost their first two GAC games.
