L.R. man is jailed in Camden for forgery

A Little Rock man charged with forgery made his first appearance in Ouachita County district court and was given a $ 15,000 bond.

On December 20, 2018 , Officer Daniel Hughes of the Camden Police Department along with Officer Manning were dispatched to Macs Fresh Market in Garden Oaks shopping center in reference to a forgery report. Upon arrival, Officers spoke with an employee who works in the Cash Saver department. The employee advised at least two weeks ago, two subjects came to the store to cash two checks which turned out to be counterfeit. The employee stated she verified both subjects identification and collected both ID numbers.

The employee presented officers with copies of the checks that were cashed. The first check was made out to Alas Brown from Pine Hills Health and Rehab in Camden, Arkansas for $588.15.

The second check was made out to Gregory Hicks from Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Camden, Arkansas for $597.35. The employee stated she contacted both companies and neither company had any employees by those names.

The ID number collected from the first subject returned to Alas Dewayne Brown out of Little Rock. The ID number collected from the second subject returned to Gregory 0. Hicks also out of Little Rock.

Video footage from Macs determined the offense occurred on December 4, 2018 at approximately 11:23 p.m.. Griffis had the video footage uploaded to a thumb drive and Officers took possession of the thumb drive along with both copies of counterfeit checks. Video footage shows both Brown and Hicks cashing counterfeit checks.
