Magnolia alumni claim first at GAC track meet

SHAWNEE, Okla. – A pair of former Magnolia athletes were among the leaders as the SAU Muleriders took second place and Lady Muleriders third at the 2019 GAC Track & Field Championships.

Sinclair Pitts claimed first place in the shot put with a throw of 15.11 meters, and second in the discus with a 47.26-meter throw.

T’Keyah Crockett took home top honors in the hammer throw, obliterating the GAC record in the event, previously at 47.76 meters. The senior’s sixth and final throw on the day saw her set the new record at 51.00 meters, besting second place by almost a full meter. She also took top honors in the discus with a throw of 46.60 meters. The mark is a Division II Provisional mark and beat her 2018 GAC record throw of 43.14 meters.

Other top performers for the men in the meet included the 4x400m relay team of Shonquill Atkins, Tyrenzo Banks, Ka’Ronce Higgins and Addison Ross repeating as GAC champions with a time of 3:12.44 and Aurthur Jeffery took first in the triple jump (15.24 meters), while Wesley Franklin won the 400m hurdles (53.69 seconds).

For the Lady Muleriders, Courtney Williams won the high jump (1.67 meters), as well as the triple jump (11.77 meters).

SAU will compete at the Leon Johnson Invitational at Northwestern State this weekend.
