With four conference baseball games remaining, including Monday’s road trip to Star City, Magnolia is in a fight to make the Class 4A Region 4 Baseball Field which will be played on its home diamond.
The Class 4A South Region Tournament is set for May 2-4 at Panther Field, with the top four teams from the 4A-7 and 4A-8 conferences seeking to advance to the Class 4A State Tournament the following week at Southside Batesville.
The Billies, who sneaked past the Panthers 4-3 on Friday behind a 12 strikeout performance by Arkansas Razorback commit Nick Griffin, are a perfect 8-0 in league play and hold a commanding lead in the conference standings.
The Panthers (2-4), along with four other teams, are all fighting for the three remaining slots still open for the region tournament. Three of Magnolia’s four remaining games will be against those teams, starting with a trip to Star City on Monday and playing at Camden Fairview the following Thursday. They will visit last-place Hamburg on April 22 and close the regular season at home against Warren.
Other league baseball games on Monday include Crossett playing at Hamburg and Camden Fairview visiting Monticello.
In softball, the Lady Panthers sits in first place with a two-game lead in the standings and will also play at Star City on Monday.
