The Columbia/Lafayette Retired Teachers met Wednesday March 21, 2019 in McNeil, AR at 1 p.m. at the Bible Museum. Dr. Jimmy Young have an interesting talk about his collections and where they came from. He invited us to touch and feel and as questions about the Bibles and other artifacts. It was a wonderful museum that many of us had never visited.
After touring the museum, President Elizabeth Tye called the meeting to order and led members in the Collect and the Pledge of Allegiance. There were 18 members present. It was announced by the treasurer that $199 was given to scholarship and that we had 96 paid members. $2,342.41 was the balance in our checkbook.
Judy Cassidy reported that the next scheduled meeting would be at the First Baptist Bus Barn with Father Chuck Chapman giving a talk on the Civil War. Hostess will be Sue Cook and Merilyn Jones. Service project will be for the Independent Living Center for Women.
President Elizabeth encouraged all members to report their volunteer hours even if they has not gotten to attend the monthly meeting. All hours are counted in our total. She also encouraged everyone to sign up and attend the Area IV Spring Conference which is being held in Magnolia at the First United Methodist Church. We will be hosting the event. Registration is form 9:30 - 10 a.m. Lunch is at 12 p.m. and the conference will be over at 1 p.m.
Bruce Maloch will be out featured speaker along with a welcome by Mayor Parnell Vann. Table decorations will be handled by Delores Giles, Debbie Matthews and Deborah Nipper. Bonnie Flurry along with Susan Gosdin will handle registration. Elizabeth asked us to take a table basket to fill with goodies to use for door prizes. Registration sheets were passed around so that we could preregister.
It was reported that Charlotte Cheatham was recovering and an update on Merilyn Jones was given.
