The Magnolia Lady Panthers maintained their lead in the 4A Region 8 Conference softball race following a 5-3 victory over the Star City Lady Bulldog last Friday.

The Lady Bulldogs had an opportunity to gain a share of the conferenc lead.

In action Friday, the Lady Panthers took the lead late in the game.

The Lady Bulldogs went up 1-0 in the first inning and led 2-0 in the second before Magnolia added a run in the bottom half.

After a scoreless third inning, the Lady Panthers tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth.

Star City pulled back in front 3-2 in the top of the fifth and the Lady Panthers took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Magnolia added a single run in the sixth.

When the game was tied 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth, CB Souter singled to score the go-ahead run.

Souter also earned the victory in the pitcher’s circle for the Lady Panthers.

Caitlyn McCormack started the game and lasted four innings, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out six. At the plate, Magnolia took advantage of eight hits.

Brittany Yates led with two hits in three at-bats.

As of Friday, the 4A-8 standings included the following:
