JACK ROGERS

Services for Andrew Jackson Rogers will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2018, at Lewis Funeral Home Chapel in Magnolia with Pastor Paul Bullock officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Memorial Park under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home. Visitation on that day will be 1-2 p.m., prior to the service.

Known to his family and friends as “Big Jack,” he was born in McNeil on December 16, 1926. Mr. Rogers, now of Shreveport, La., died March 28, 2018, at the age of 91. He was a graduate of Magnolia High School where he was a member of the varsity basketball and football teams and named homecoming king. He attended Southern Arkansas University where he studied electrical engineering. His further studies included many hours of management, blueprint reading and human relations. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea.

In September 1947, he met and married Mary Jimmie Booth. Together they raised four children in God’s word, worshipping for over 60 years, 50 of that as a deacon, at College View Baptist Church in Magnolia. Jack loved the Lord, was a devoted member.

Mr. Rogers worked for Southern Extrusion and Howmet Aluminum Corporation from 1950 to 1983, and after much world travel, including being a pilot for the company, he retired as President/General Manager. In 1983, Jack founded and was the president of Rogers and Associates, a manufacturers’ representative and sales agency until he retired again in 1993. He was past-President and a member of the board of directors of Magnolia Country Club. Jack was a dedicated and proud member of Masonic Lodge McNeil #440 for over 50-plus years, which he held close to his heart, and a past member of the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce.

“Big Jack” loved his family, and they love him. Well known as a talented “guitar playing man,” he taught his children the love of music and the outdoors. Many hours were spent gathered “picking-and-a-singing” with family and friends, on the golf course, or fishing at the farm in McNeil, where he was born and raised.

He was preceded in death by his two sons, Andrew “Andy” Rogers and “Little Jack” Evan Rogers; his parents; two brothers; one sister; and a host of in-laws.

Jack is survived by his wife of 70 grand and glorious years, Mary Jimmie Booth Rogers; one son, Anthony Booth Rogers and wife Sheila of Strong; one daughter, Robbie Rogers Gaiennie of Shreveport, La.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four nieces; eight nephews; and his sister-in-law, Shirley Rogers of Magnolia.

The family would like to thank the tremendous care given by Willis-Knighton Pierremont in Shreveport, especially Dr. Beth Blair and her colleagues and nurses for their compassion that was unwavering.

In his honor, Pallbearers will be the present Deacons of College View Baptist Church of Magnolia.

Honorary pallbearers will be close family friend Joseph A. Sterkx Jr., Jay Elliott, Ronnie Pipkin, Randy Mainous and Curtis Malone.

Memorials may be made to College View Baptist Church or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
