The fire department received a $6,000 donation. That amount will fully fund the purchase of two new fire suits to retrofit a fireman, head-to-toe, in new gear.

“This will buy two complete sets of protective equipment,” said MFD Assistant Chief Randall Stevens.

Just after his trip to the local fire house, Catrett stopped by the Columbia County Library in Magnolia, where he presented a $14,122 donation on Weyerhaeuser’s behalf.

The operations manager on Monday said the company’s charitable fund will donate close to $40,000 total as part of its year-end giving. Other organizations set for checks include: the Emerson Fire Department, Magnolia United Way, and Columbia County Senior Meal Service.
