Former Mulerider named as Hendrix’s offensive coordinator

CONWAY - After serving as the offensive line coach for more than four months for the Hendrix College Warriors in Conway, Russ Phillips will serve as the new offensive coordinator for the football team.

Phillips, a native of Roanoke, Texas, and graduate of Southern Arkansas University where he played with the Muleriders from 1991-1995.

He also met his wife, Heidi, at SAU.

Following his college playing days, the two moved to Texas and started his coaching tenure at Lewisville High School where he spent 13 years, the last four seasons as the offensive coordinator.

Following his time at Lewisville, he obtained a head coaching opportunity at a Class 2A high school in Ponder, Texas.

He coached there three years before claiming a coaching position at Denton Guyer High School in Denton, Texas.

In just his first season at Denton Guyer, Phillips led the Wildcats to its second straight 4A Division I Texas High School state championship following a 31-14 victory over Brennan High School in the title game.

In his three seasons at Denton Guyer, Phillips served as the wide receivers coach, head boys track coach, and was the assistant strength and conditioning coordinator.

After his tenure at Denton Guyer, Phillips coached the running backs and served as the head strength and conditioning coordinator at Southlake Carroll High School, a high school football powerhouse in the state of Texas. His duties included coaching the running backs and serving as the head strength and conditioning director. He also worked with sprinters and relays in track and field. In addition to his successful playing career at SAU, Phillips also received his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.
