Mobile food pantry coming to Stamps

Harvest Regional Food Bank’s mobile food pantry will distribute United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) commodities Wednesday, March 22, from 10 a.m.-12 noon at 205 Thomas St. in Stamps (the old SWADC Senior Citizens Center).

Seniors ages 65 and older will be served first, starting at 10 a.m., followed by those younger than 65.

“We have several communities in our rural service area that are not fully served by local partner agencies. Harvest helps by providing direct service in these areas to fill the need.” said Camille Wrinkle, executive director of Harvest Regional Food Bank in Texarkana.

Those in need must bring photo identification verifying their age and that they reside in Lafayette County. One distribution will be made per household and residents cannot pick up food for others. Federal commodities will be available for those that meet income requirements and do not receive commodities at another location. Full income guidelines can be found on our website at www.harvestregionalfoodbank.org under Programs / TEFAP.

Food boxes will include an assortment of canned fruits and vegetables, rice, pasta, fruit juices, spices, and other items.

HRFB began the mobile pantry program in 2011 with Pike and Lafayette Counties. Columbia and Howard Counties were added in 2014.
