A “Conversation Cafe” sponsored by Harbor House Prevention Providers of Region 7 will be held 11:30 a.m.- 1 p.m. in the fifth floor conference room at the McAlester Building, 124 S. Jackson St., in Magnolia. The topic will be children of alcoholics and how to help them. A light lunch will be provided. Seating is limited. The Schmieding Home Caregiver Training Program of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) will hold a free family caregiver workshop for those who would like to learn about caring for an adult with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. The workshop will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the South Arkansas Center on Aging located at 106 West Main, Suite 310, in El Dorado. SATURDAY - Feb. 25

Magnolia Hold-Em Poker Tournament will be at Magnolia Arts Center. Doors open at 5 p.m., with the first hand beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $70 in advance and $85 at the door; tickets include food and drinks. Tickets may be purchased at Chicken Express, Hairworks, or from any Leadership Magnolia member. There will also be a silent auction.

The 13th Annual African-American History Celebration of Youth: Remembering Our Heritage is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in Grand Hall of the Reynolds Center on the SAU campus. FRIDAY - March 3

The annual Area 15 Special Olympics Polar Plunge will be held at the SAU Armory Pond. Registration is at 11:30 a.m., with the plunge at 12 noon and awards ceremony immediately following. MONDAY - March 6

The March meeting of the Emerson-Taylor-Bradley School Board has been rescheduled for Monday, March 6, to avoid conflicts with other school activities.

TUESDAY - March 14

The Magnolia-Columbia County Literacy Council annual fundraiser will be from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Magnolia Jr. High School Cafeteria. The meal will be catered by Marlar’s Cafeteria. Plates will include grilled chicken breast, special green beans, hashbrown casserole, roll, and dessert. Drinks (sweet/unsweet tea or lemonade) will be available for dine-in customers only. Tickets are $10 per plate.

WEDNESDAY - March 22

Harvest Regional Food Bank’s mobile food pantry will distribute United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) commodities Wednesday, March 22, from 10 a.m.-12 noon at 205 Thomas St. in Stamps (the old SWADC Senior Citizens Center).

FRIDAY - March 24

An abandoned pesticide program will be from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the parking lot of the C.W. Easter Center, 902 E. McKissack St. in Waldo. Persons can bring chemicals, pesticides, and other such products for safe disposal.

SATURDAY - March 25

The Magnolia Masons will hold a fish fry from 4-7 p.m. at 302 W. Stadium in Magnolia. This will include “all you can eat” fried catfish with all the trimmings. Carry-outs are available. Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under. Proceeds will support Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Relay for Life, CCAPS, Compassion’s Foundation, and local needy families.
