Crimson Lions were too much for Panthers

Magnolia gave Little Rock McClellan more than it wanted for a half, but the Crimson Lions pulled away in the fourth quarter.

Three touchdown over the final 12 minutes resulted in a 40-14 win for the Lions at Panther Stadium Friday night.

The Panthers used a nine-play, 55 yard drive to go up 7-0 on the first possession.

Quarterback Braelyn Beasley’s first snap resulted in a 35-yard pass to receiver Kalil Collins.

The offense then stalled and the Panthers faced a 4-and-goal at the 1.

Attempting a field goal, kicker Garrett Clark picked up a bobbled snap and threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Robert Mack.

The Lions answered on a 57-yard touchdown run by Jaylon Williams. A failed two-point attempt left the score at 7-6.

Following an 11-play, 82-yard drive. McClellan took a 12-7 lead on a 20-yard run by Xavion Morgan. The two-point attempt failed again.

The Panthers fumbled and threw an interception on their only two possessions of the second quarter.

The Lions turned one of them into a touchdown when Morgan scored from the 1 midway through the quarter, making it 18-7 following a third failed two-point attempt.

The Panther defense forced a punt following the interception.

The teams traded punts to start the second half and neither team added a score.

The Lions did have a six minute drive in the quarter, which resulted in a fumble that was recovered by Devin Johnson.

In the final period, Derrick Lloyd Jr. scored on a 6-yard run to put the visitors up 26-7.

The lead stretched to 32-7 following a 22-yard touchdown run.

Magnolia doubled its score off a 56-yardf touchdown run by Maurice Strickland with 8:09 to play in the game, making it 32-15.

McClellan placed its final mark on the game on a 17-yard touchdown run that made it 40-14.

The Panthers moved to 4-4 on the season and 1-4 in 5A-South Conference play.

The will travel to De Queen Friday to battle the Leopards and return home Nov. 2 for the regular-season finale against the Hope Bobcats.
