Lady Muleriders claim 1-0 victory

The SAU Lady Muleriders (56-9) took game one of a best-of-three series against Minnesota-Duluth at the Super Regional tournament on Thursday behind a stellar pitching performance by Victoria Taylor (31-0) and an offensive push from the bat of senior Jill Roye that led to a 1-0 win over the Bulldogs (44-15).

Taylor allowed just four hits in seven innings to claim her seventh shutout win from the bump behind six strikeouts.

Roye went 3-for-3 with a solo dinger in the bottom of the second inning that proved to be the winner.

SAU’s defense turned a game-ending double-play that ended the Bulldog’s threat in the seventh.

The two teams are playing again today at 2 p.m.

If the Lady Muleriders win, they will advance to the to the NCAA Division II National Softball Championships starting next Thursday at the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, VA.

If they lose today, the third and deciding game of the Super Regionals will be played at 4:30 p.m.
