WEDNESDAY - May 16

Magnolia Arts Center will hold its Annual Art Show Artist Reception from 4p.m.-7 p.m.

The Columbia/Lafayette County Unit of The Arkaansas Retired Teachers Association will meet at First Baptist Church’s Bus Barn at 1 p.m. The program is Emotional Wellness. Guest speaker will be Alaina Murphy from Methodist Counseling Center. CCAPS animal shelter is the service project. Pet food, toys, blankets, cleaning supplies or monetary donations are much needed supplies for these animals. Any retired school personnel is invited to attend.

THURSDAY - May 17

Emerson Elementary presents its final performance of “The Wizard of Oz” at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the Emerson School’s Elementary office.

FRIDAY - May 18

Beginning today, and for each Friday until June 22, the Magnolia-Columbia County Literacy Council is offering free basic computer skills classes 10 a.m.-noon at 104 Harvey Couch Blvd. in Magnolia (same building as Workforce). Classes are free but seating is limited, so you must call 870-901-6028 or 870-234-6064 to reserve a spot.

The Magnolia High School 50+ Celebration will be held in the Reynolds Center at SAU. Registration is at 4 p.m.; dinner is at 5:30 p.m. MHS alumni and guests are encouraged to attend. For more information, call Carla at 870-234-1771.

SATURDAY - May 19

Magnolia Arts Center’s will host its Annual Art Show and Arkansas Art Council Artmobile from 9a.m.-2 p.m., and a Tommy Terrific Magic Show from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Admission is free to the public.

TUESDAY - May 22

South Arkansas Women’s Network cordially invites you to attend a reception honoring the recipients of the Horizon, Lifetime and Career Achievement Awards 5 p.m at the LifeSmart Center, 1005 N. Jackson, in Magnolia. Presentation of Awards will be at 5:30 p.m. Horizon Award Recipient, Amber Dycus; Dr. Jennifer Rowsam; Lifetime Recipient, Mary N. Jameson; Scholarship Recipient, Petra Biddle.

MRMC Auxiliary book signing for Dr. Steve Smart at the gift shop, 5-7 p.m.

SATURDAY - Jun. 2

Logoly State Park annual Kid’s Fishing Derby. The derby will begin at 7:30 a.m. and end around noon. The derby is limited to 50 contestants. This derby is free but registration is a MUST. Registration begins May 1, 2018.

Logoly State park is located 6 miles north of Magnolia off Highway 79 on Columbia County Road 47, follow the park signs. Contact Logoly State park at 870-695-3561 to register or for more information.

Columbia County’s United Community Organization will sponsor its annual Juneteenth Festival at South Side Park in Magnolia. T-shirts are on sale now at Blackmon’s Barber and Beauty Salon. Prices for t-shirts--all sizes--are $10.00 through Thursday, May 31st. T-shirt prices will increase to $15.00 per shirt effective Friday, June 1st. This event is free and open to the public.

Pre-Juneteenth Festival Entertainment: “Trouble Don’t Last Always” Stage Play at Magnolia Junior High Auditorium at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at Blackmon’s Barber and Beauty Salon for $10.00. $15.00 at the door.

FRIDAY - Jun. 15

Juneteenth Festival Gospel Fest immediately following parade festivities at 7 p.m. B.Y.O.C. (Bring Your Own Chair). Several local choirs and groups will perform.

Juneteenth Festival kick-off parade at 6 p.m. The parade route will be from Jackson St. Church of Christ to South Side Park. For free entry and/or more information regarding the parade, please contact Kizmet Davis (870) 904-7435.

Juneteenth Festival’s Family & Friends Day at South Side Park will be held from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Activities to include Rib Cook-Off Competition, Domino Tournament, Spirit of Dance Competition, Cake Walk, Kiddie Land, Food/Craft vendors, and countless other family friendly activities.
