Sheriff’s Office seeks suspects in Wednesday night Waldo shooting

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is actively seeking multiple suspects involved in a Wednesday night Waldo shooting stemming from an argument that left one victim in the hospital after suffering life-threatening wounds.

At approximately 8:16 p.m. March 14, Columbia County law enforcement agents respond to a call of shots fired on South Lee Street in Waldo. Minutes later, another emergency call was placed alerting officers to additional gunshots in the area of Dempsey and Center Streets.

During the police response, yet another call came through, this time indicating that a gunshot wound victim was being transported by private vehicle to the Magnolia Regional Medical Center emergency room for treatment of serious and “life-threatening” wounds, according to a CCSO statement.

The victim’s life was saved as a result of emergency surgery. The individual is now in stable condition, according to a report.

The matter was investigated by county officers and positively identified one suspect who is yet to be named. Investigators also spoke with witnesses and discovered the incident was caused by a three-person argument. The agency’s Thursday press release stated the initial “shootout” took place on South Lee and West Streets, before moving to Dempsey and Cottage Streets where the argument continued.

Arrest warrants are pending for the suspects but, as of late Thursday, no arrests have been made. The investigation is still ongoing, with CCSO asking anyone with information on the incident to please contact its central dispatch at 870-234-5655.
