Basketball, softball camps set

The annual Southern Arkansas University boys’ basketball and softball camps will start Monday on the campus.

Head basketball coach Andy Sharpe announced that the Sharpe Shooter Basketball Camp is returning for the sixth consecutive year and will take place Monday through Thursday inside the W.T. Watson Center.

The four-day camp is for any and all athletes entering grades kindergarten through 12th and will focus on the fundamentals of the game such as shooting, passing, ball handling, dribbling, rebounding, and defensive skills.

Campers will be separated based on skill level as well as age.

Additionally, eight-foot basketball goals will be used for younger campers.

The camp begins at 9 a.m. and runs to noon each day, Monday through Thursday.

The cost is $100 per camper and athletes can register on Monday before the camp.

A daily concession stand will be also be provided.

In its sixth year, the Sharpe Shooter Basketball Camp is dedicated to providing an environment of skill instruction where campers may improve individually as basketball players and have fun. It is the goal of our camp staff to provide campers with basketball knowledge and drills they may take home with them so they may continue to improve as a player.

Junior Mulerider

SAU softball will be holding a three-day “Junior Mulerider” Camp Monday through Wednesday at the Mulerider Softball Complex.

The camp is open to young softball players in grades kindergarten through 6th who want to improve their basic skills.

The three-day camp will cover all skills of softball including: throwing, catching, fielding, hitting, bunting, base running, and an introduction into pitching and catching from the SAU softball coaching staff, which is the 2018 Central Region Coaching Staff of the Year.

Camp participants should bring cleats, glove, batting gloves, bat, helmet, catching gear, and sliders.

It is also recommended that all participants wear ball pants each day.

Check-in is at 8:30 a.m. each day and the camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Wednesday.

The cost is $100 per camper. Registration will also b available at check-in on Monday.
