WEDNESDAY - Jan. 17

The Columbia-Lafayette Retired Teachers will meet at 1 p.m. in the First Baptist Church bus barn in Magnolia. Guest speaker will be Registered Dietician Katie Bell, who will talk about healthy eating for wellness. Service project is Compassion’s Foundation, for which personal care items and monetary donations will be accepted.

THURSDAY - Jan. 18

The January meeting of the El Dorado Parkinson’s and Care-Partner Support Group will be held 2-3 p.m. in the 2nd floor conference room at Simmons First Bank, 100 Grove St. in El Dorado. Kristen Trulock with the Parkinson’s Foundation will be the guest speaker. All interested persons are welcome to attend. The Emerson-Taylor-Bradley School Board will meet in the boardroom at 7 p.m. The meeting was rescheduled due to conflicts with other school events. All school board meetings are open to the public.

SATURDAY - Jan. 20

Magnolia Arts will host a Music Night featuring Corey White. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $40 for Magnolia Arts members, $45 for the general public, and include beer.

A benefit singing program for the Kings Hill Cemetery will be held at 5 p.m. at the New Zion Missionary Bapist Church.

MONDAY - Jan. 22

The Walkerville Water System, Walkerville Fire Department, and Walkerville Fire District will hold their annual meeting at 7 p.m. at Walkerville Presbyterian Church.

WEDNESDAY - Jan. 24

FACT (Families and Children Together) Inc. will hold a meeting of the Policy Council at 9:30 a.m. and a meeting of the Board of Directors at 2:45 p.m. Both meetings will be at the FACT central office, 2720 Vine Street in El Dorado, and both are open to the public.

SATURDAY - Jan. 27

“Garden Thyme,” a gardening seminar presented by the Columbia County Master Gardeners, will be held 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Cost is $10. For more information, contact the Extension Service at 870-235-3720.

FRIDAY - Feb. 2

The deadline for Class of 2018 high school seniors from Magnolia, Nevada, Emerson, Taylor, Camden, El Dorado and the surrounding area to sign up to participate in the 14th annual African-American History Celebration of Youth: Remembering Our Heritage event. The event will be Sunday, Feb. 25 at 2:30 p.m. in the Grand Hall of the Donald W. Reynolds Center at SAU. Seniors to speak briefly (one minutes or less) on what black history means to them, how it impacted their lives and the person or persons (past or present) who has influence them the most. There will also be a special young-adult speaker to encourage the students. Submit a quality close-up color photograph, your name and school’s name by 5 p.m. Email them to [email protected]. Magnolia Ministers Network members will meet at noon today at Life Builders Restoration Church, 227 A Street in Magnolia, hosted by Pastor Leroy Martin.

SUNDAY - Feb. 25

The 14th annual African-American History Celebration of Youth: Remembering Our Heritage event will held at 2:30 p.m. in Grand Hall of Donald W. Reynolds Center at SAU. Several high school seniors will speak. The event is sponsored by Bethlehem Baptist Church Youth Department, Albemarle Foundation, Columbia County Community Foundation, SAU Multicultural Services and CSNS Fashion.
