Lady Crusaders crowned AACS state champions

The Columbia Christian Lady Crusaders (left photo), along with the Jr. Lady Crusaders (right), captured the 2018 Arkansas Association of Christian Schools' State Championships last weekend at the CCS gymnasium. The Lady Crusaders defeated West Side Christian of El Dorado 41-38 in the title game. Kelcy Lamkin, named the tournament's most valuable player, scored 17 points and grabbed four rebounds. Katlin Eads finished with nine points and three rebounds, while Heidi May had six points. The Lady Crusaders knocked off Garrett Memorial 46-27 in the semifinals. Lamkin led with 19 points, Brianna Nipper had 11, while May and Maci McMahen had seven apiece. The Lady Crusaders finished with a 25-6 overall record. Named to the all-state team were McMahen and Lamkin. On the all-state tournament team were McMahen, Lamkin, Eads and May. The undefeated Jr. Lady Crusaders (17-0) defeated Garrett Memorial 35-23 in the championship game. Lamkin had 18 points and was also the Junior High Most Valuable Player. May scored six points, had five rebounds and four steals. Claudia Ray finished with five points and 11 rebounds. It was the second consecutive season that the Jr. Lady Crusaders finished the season unbeaten. In senior boys' action, the Crusaders lost to Gospel Light 68-62. John Mitchell led with 19 points and five rebounds, while Ryan McKamie had 13 points and six rebounds. Brandon Johnson finished with 11 points. Taylor Stinnett, McKamie and Tatum were named to the all-district team, while Stinnett earned all-state honors. The AACS State Tournament was held Feb. 15-17 at Columbia Christian School.
