Magnolia teams finish first, third in swimming

ARKADELPHIA - The Magnolia Lady Panthers recently won the South District Swim Meet, while the Panthers placed third.

The event was held Feb. 9 on the Henderson State campus in Arkadelphia.

The Lady Panthers piled up 456 total points overall, well ahead of second place Arkadelphia's 268 points.

Individuals placing first in their events were senior Rylee Barnett in the 50m freestyle with a time of 26.9 and 100m backstroke with a time of 1:07.40, and senior Madalynn Vann in the 500m freestyle with a time of 7:25.14.

Relays that placed first were the girls' 200m freestyle, which included the lead leg by Abbie Young, followed by Natalie Boyd, Ella Williams and anchored by Barnett.

The girls' 400m freestyle relay team also placed first, with lead leg Natalie Boyd, followed by Elise McWilliams, Vann and anchored by freshman Emma Grace Ellington.

All athletes who placed first individually or on a relay were named all-district swimmers.

Athletes placing in the top three individually included the following:

• Ella Williams, third, 200m freestyle.

• Emma Grace Ellington, second, 200m individual medley.

• Kera Middleton, third, 200m individual medley.

• Abbie Young, second, 50m freestyle.

• Elise McWilliams, second, 100m butterfly.

• Emma Grace Ellington, second, 500m freestyle.

• Leila Dadgar, third, 500m freestyle.

• Ella Williams, second, 100m breaststroke.

The Lady Panthers qualified in all three relays for the state meet in Bentonville on Feb. 24. Individual qualifiers before scratch outs were Rylee Barnett and Ella Williams.

The Panthers placed third overall with 246 total points.

Bailey McCook placed first in the 500m freestyle.

The 200m relay team placed first overall, led off by Logan Riley on backstroke, followed by Bailey McCook on breaststroke, Carwin Edwards on butterfly and anchored by Hayden Rogers on freestyle.

The boys' 200m freestyle relay team also finished first with an exciting come-from-behind win by Bailey McCook. The relay was lead off by Hayden Rogers, followed by Carwin Edwards and Braden Green, and anchored by McCook, who was behind at the turn and overcame an Arkadelphia swimmer for an overall win in the event.

Swimmers placing in the top three included:

• Carwin Edwards, third, 200m freestyle.

• Bailey McCook, second, 200m intermediate medley.

• Logan Riley, third, 100m butterfly.

• Hayden Rogers, second, 500m freestyle.

• Braden Green, third, 500m freestyle.

The Panthers had all three relays qualify for the state meet in Bentonville.

Individual qualifiers before scratch outs were Bailey McCook and Hayden Rogers.
