THURSDAY - Feb. 15

CADC distribution of USDA commodities will take place beginning at 9 a.m. at the Treadway Building, 230 S. Fredrick in Magnolia. All customers receiving commodities must present identification. The deadline to apply for Youth Advisory Council (YAC) grant proposals is 5 p.m. today. All nonprofit Columbia County agencies that serve youth and children are invited to apply by sending modest grant proposals to Columbia County Community Foundation, c/o Ashly Roberts, P.O. Box 1732, Magnolia, Ark. 71754.

SUNDAY - Feb. 18

At 5 p.m. in the SAU Engineering Building (Old Armory), the African Heritage Extravaganza sponsored by Columbia County’s United Community Organization will take place. Tickets are on sale now at Blackmon’s Barber and Beauty Salon for $15. The public is cordially invited to attend.

MONDAY - Feb. 19

Tickets are on sale until March 9 at Jennifer’s on the Square for the Magnolia Jr. Charity League’s Follies. Angel tickets are $35; general tickets are $25.

TUESDAY - Feb. 20

The Central Arkansas Development Council (CADC) 2018 Crisis Winter LIHEAP Utility Assistance program will begin today and continue as long as funds are available. Applications from Columbia County and Lafayette County residents will be accepted Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. until 12 noon at the CADC Office, 1503 North Vine St. in Magnolia.

The Pentecostals of Magnolia, Hwy. 79 bypass, will hold a Gospel Jam Session in their Fellowship Hall at 6 p.m. All are welcome. For more information, call Jackie Haire at 870-234-5284.

WEDNESDAY - Feb. 21

Harvest Regional Food Bank will provide pantry boxes to the first 120 qualifying households 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the C.W. Easter Recreation Center, 902 E. McKissack in Waldo. THURSDAY - Feb. 22

The Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center (ASBTDC) and Team Camden present “Top Notch Customer Service” 1-3 p.m. in the OPED Building, 625 Adams in Camden. The speaker will be ASBTDC Director Janell Morton. This seminar will acquaint you with valuable information regarding customer service, as well as a way to set your business apart from your competitor. The seminar includes topics such as creating a culture of top-notch customer service, exceeding customer expectations, and handling unhappy customers. The seminar is FREE. The Magnolia Lions Club will have a fundraiser 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the C.W. Easter Community Center in Waldo. Tickets are $5 for one (1) sausage dog, chips, dessert and a drink, or $6.50 for two (2) sausage dogs, chips, dessert and a drink.

SUNDAY - Feb. 25

Bethany Missionary Baptist Church of McNeil will hold a Black History Program at 2:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Carolyn Williams, Curator and Director of the Quilted History Museum in El Dorado.

The 14th annual African-American History Celebration of Youth: Remembering Our Heritage event will be held at 2:30 p.m. in Grand Hall of Donald W. Reynolds Center at SAU. Several high school seniors will speak, along with performances from SAU student Miguel Johnson, 5-year-old Karrington Davis and the Rising Starz Dance Team. The event is sponsored by Bethlehem Baptist Church Youth Department, Albemarle Foundation, Columbia County Community Foundation, SAU Multicultural Services and CSNS Fashion. TUESDAY - Feb. 27

Greer’s Chapel United Methodist Church will host a Laundry Love Event 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Main Street Laundry, 1109 E. Main in Magnolia. Coins and laundry detergent will be provided for up to 3 normal loads per family. Come do your laundry for free.

WEDNESDAY - Feb. 28

Students at Central Elementary School are collaborating with the local chapter of Circle of Friends to support the Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Students are collecting travel-size toiletry items that the hospital will give to families who have children staying in the hospital. Students will collect these items through today. Anyone interested in making a donation to this effort may bring items to the school office at 456 E. North Street in Magnolia during regular school hours. All products should be new and unopened. Travel size bottles are preferred for individual use. The following list includes the items being accepted: Shampoo, conditioner, lotion, deodorant, toothpaste/toothbrush combo sets, mouthwash, body wash, face wash, face wipes, Chapstick, and gallon-sized bags.

SATURDAY - Mar. 3

Leadership Magnolia presents the Magnolia Hold’Em Championship at Magnolia Arts Center. Sign-in/registration is at 5 p.m.; first hand will be dealt at 6 p.m. Must be 21 or over to play. Purchase tickets from Leadership class members, the Chamber, or Peoples Bank. All proceeds go toward the Leadership Magnolia class project benefiting Columbia County Senior Meal Service. The Magnolia-Columbia County Literacy Council will hold a fundraiser 5:30-8 p.m. at 104 Harvey Couch Blvd. in Magnolia. Tickets are $10 and include Marlar’s grilled chicken breast, special green beans, hashbrown casserole, roll, and a choice of Mississippi Mud or carrot cake. SATURDAY - Apr. 7

The Keep Arkansas Beautiful clean-up in McNeil begins at 8 a.m. Those participating need to meet at City Hall.

Registration for the Festival on the Rails Fishing Derby is at 11 a.m. in the pavilion at Logoly State Park. At noon lunch will be provided by the Men’s Brotherhood of First Baptist Church of McNeil. The competition will take place after lunch.

SAU Tech’s Annual Welding Academy Competition takes place today 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Compete to win a scholarship to the SAU Tech Welding Academy and show off your welding skills. Pay $25 fee at the event. All high school graduates, GED graduates, and high school students are eligible to compete. Register online at www.sautech.edu at the event link.

The Festival on the Rails Pageant will take place at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church in McNeil. Applications are available online or at the water office in McNeil.

SATURDAY - Apr. 14

The 11th Annual Festival on the Rails and 8th annual Pork Chop Cookoff in McNeil will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until fireworks at dusk.
