Magnolia's Moore, Young shining for junior college in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, KS - A pair of former Magnolia Lady Panthers are having good seasons as freshmen with the Kansas City, KS, Community College (KCKCC) Lady Blue Devils.

Starters Lillie Moore is averaging 12.8 points and 8.2 rebounds, while teammate starter Kisi Young is averaging 15.2 points and 8.8 rebounds. Both are shooting better than 60 percent from the field.

In a game last month, the 6-foot-1 Moore pulled down 20 rebounds to become only the third Blue Devil with 20 or more rebounds, trailing only Kesia Houston, who grabbed 23 and 22 in 1994; and Brooklyn Wagler, who had 21 last season. She also had 14 points for her fifth double-double of the season.

The 5-foot-9 Young was named the KJCCC Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week back on Jan. 23 after scoring 20 points and grabbing seven rebounds.

In another game, Moore, Young and freshman teammate Nija Collier of Roseville, MI, combined for 50 points and 28 rebounds. Moore led with 23 points and 12 rebounds; Young had 12 points and 10 rebounds; and Collier 15 points and 6 rebounds.

Moore missed just three shots in her big production, hitting 8-of-10 field goal attempts and converting 7-of-8 free throws.

Before the weekend, the Lady Blue Devils were 18-7 overall.

In action last Wednesday, Moore finished with eight points and eight rebounds, while Young had 14 points.
