Lady Panthers capture benefit volleyball match

Magnolia defeated Arkansas High 3-1 in a benefit volleyball game Tuesday at Panther Arena.

The Lady Panthers won by scores of 25-10, 23-25, 25-10, 25-17.

They will officially start the new season a week from today at Ashdown. The junior varsity and freshmen Lady Panthers will also be in action, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

On the floor, Tia Hunter had eight kills, while CB Souter followed with seven. Callie Barnett added six, while Keshantia Brant had four.

Carlin Whaley had two, while Laurenb Chambliss, Tiffany Erwin, and Kayleigh Sneed had one apiece.

Sneed finished with 15 assists and two ace serves.

Chamblis, Brittany Yates, Hunter, Whaley and Brant also had an ace serve.

In digs, Kristin Smith Sneed led with 13, while Sneed added four and Chambliss finished with three.

Yates, Barnett and Whaley had two apiece, while Brant and Hunter had one.

Barnett and Whaley had one block apiece.

During the four-set match, the Lady Panthers had a total of 30 kills and 27 digs.

In other MHS sports news, the golf team is playing their first match today at the Magnolia Country Club. Action against Monticello started at 3:30 p.m.

On Friday, the Panther football team will head to Mena for a benefit football against against the Bearcats starting at 6 p.m.
