SAU to host GAC Championships

Muleriders, Lady Muleriders perform well in Louisiana

MONROE, La. – The Southern Arkansas men ands women had a good showing over the weekend before their GAC Championships begin on Thursday at the Mulerider Track Complex.

The men recorded 13 performances that claimed Top-10 recognition on Saturday afternoon at the ULM Warhawk Classic.

Karonce Higgins logged the highest finish of any Mulerider at the meet as he placed second in the 200 Meter, while classmate Raymond Miller recorded an eighth-place finish in the event.

Miller also recorded a personal best time in the 100 Meter event, which saw freshman Carderick Johnson led six other Muleriders in the event with an eighth-place finish.

Fellow rookie Oluwaseun Amosun produced a personal-best time in the 200 Meter event. Senior Larry Booker placed eighth in the 400 Meter, while a pair of 4x100 relay teams finished in the top seven on Saturday.

In the field, SAU added seven top 10 finishes which included two each from junior Sinclair Pitts, sophomore Richard Barkhimer and freshman Sal Guli. Senior Aaron Linnear placed eighth in the triple jump.

For the women, the 4x100m relay team of Kirby Roy, Kenisha Bryant, Breanna Byrd and Chloe Riddley topped Division I-McNeese State by .02 seconds to stand atop the podium as they set SAU’s season-best time of 48.02.

The women logged five top 10 finishes and saw three personal best performances including a pair from freshman Carley Hale.

Hale recorded a personal best mark in the long jump (15’ 4.75”) and added a personal best mark with a seventh-place finish in the triple jump (34’ 9.75”), while sophomore Bailey Yocom raced to a personal best time (27.81) in the 200m.

Following the first-place showing of the 4x100m relay team was senior thrower T’Keyah Crockett finishing in fifth place in the discus throw, while classmate Bethany Billings placed sixth in the high jump.

The 2018 GAC Track & Field Championships will Thursday through Saturday at the Mulerider Track Complex.
