MARTHA TALBOT

Martha Lou Martin Talbot, 73, was born November 7, 1943, in Jackson, Miss. She passed away September 14, 2017, in Hot Springs after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Martha Lou grew up in Shreveport, La., where she attended A. C. Steere Elementary, Broadmoor Jr. High and Byrd High School. She was a graduate of Centenary College in Shreveport where she majored in elementary education. After graduation, Talbot taught seventh grade English and American History at Linwood Jr. High. While at Centenary, she was initiated into Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity and had her own by-line writing articles for The Shreveport Times entitled “What’s happening at Centenary.”

Martha Lou and Dudley Andrew Talbot were married on February 10, 1968, and moved to Magnolia, where she was a homemaker and was involved in many social and civic organizations as well as being an Elder and Deacon at First Presbyterian Church. Martha Lou was also the Home and Gift buyer and Manager for Talbot’s Home and Gift Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Guyton Martin and Audelle Terry Martin of Shreveport.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Dudley Andrew Talbot; son Joseph Guyton Talbot; and daughter Joanna Martin Talbot.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1417 North Jackson, Magnolia, Ark. 71753 or a charity of your choice.

Visitation was held at 10 a.m. with a memorial service which followed at 11 a.m. Monday, September 18, at First Presbyterian Church in Magnolia.
