CHARLIE HARRIS JR.

Rev. Charlie Harris Jr., 81, of McDonough, Ga., passed away September 3, 2017, at his home.

He was born February 10, 1936, in Magnolia to Charlie Harris Sr. and Jessie Harris.

In 1968, Charlie and his family moved to Detroit, Mich., where he worked for a trucking company and later opened Charlie’s Auto Service and Harris Enterprises. He attended Garden of Faith Missionary Baptist Church. He was ordained in 2005 as Rev. Charlie Harris Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 11 siblings.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Marva Lavern Harris; three children, Jimmie Harris of Dallas, Texas, James Harris of McDonough, Ga., and Charlotte Smith of Stockbridge, Ga.; two sisters, Dorothy Clark of Detroit, Mich., and Nettie Banks of Magnolia; one brother, Christopher Wilkins of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

Celebration of Life will be Saturday, September 16, at 1 p.m. at Columbia District Auditorium in Magnolia with Cedrick Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in 23rd Psalm Cemetery in Magnolia under the direction of R.L. Reed Funeral Home LLC of Magnolia.

Visitation will be Friday, September 15, noon-5 p.m. at the funeral home.
