Emerson students help unload food truck

A number of students from Emerson spent their first full day out of their summer break from school helping unload a food truck at the old Meadowbrook Lodge Nursing Home. The truck delivered food that is a part of the United States Department of Agriculture Commodities program.

The food is distributed quarterly through the Central Arkansas Development Council (CADC). Representatives with the council sent out a call for help to Martha Dodson, who contacted Brister Baptist Church and First Baptist Church in Emerson. The churches sent out a request for help, and young people from the Emerson area answered and made themselves available to unload the truck.

Information on the commodities distribution program is available by calling the CADC at 870-234-6444, ext. 5, and asking for Alicia Asch-Lourenco or Earline Garner. Distribution is held quarterly. Food resource guides are passed out along with the commodities that identify feeding sites and other food distribution programs in the area.
