Tigers lose to Woodlawn in Class 1A baseball finals

FAYETTEVILLE - The Taylor Tigers took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but couldn't keep up with Woodlawn the rest of the way.

The Bears (34-1) scored four runs in the bottom half of the opening inning and cruised to a five-inningd 13-3 win of the Tigers (25-7) in the Class 1A State Baseball Finals Saturday at Baum Stadium.

Leading 4-2 after one inning, the Bears went up 6-2 after the second.

Neither team scored in the third, but the Tigers managed a single run in the top of the fourth.

Leading 6-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Bears scored seven runs to end the game.

Woodlawn had only seven hits to Taylor's six, and committed five errors to only two for the Tigers.

At the plate for Taylor, Ryan Downs had a pair of hits, while Gage Harris, Hayden Lindsey and Sam Sessions connected once at the plate.

Will Richardson led the Bears at the plate with three hits and six RBIs.

He was also the winning pitcher, striking out four Tiger batters.

Richardson was named the game's most valuable player, with two of his hits were home runs.

The Tigers used Ty Lindsey, Dylan Campbell and Downs on the mound. Downs took the loss.
