Magnolia beats Genoa Central, but loses to Taylor on Saturday

The Magnolia Lady Panthers defeated Genoa Central on Saturday, but loss to Taylor in softball action at Lady Panther Field.

Against Genoa Central, both teams pounded out 13 hits but the Lady Panthers won 12-4. Magnolia scored six runs in both the fourth and fifth innings.

The Lady Panthers fell 6-2 to Taylor.

In the top of the fourth against Genoa Central, the Lady Panthers trailed 3-0.

The big inning was driven by singles from Kelsey Mattson, Hannah Vanderbilt, and Haley Vanderbilt.

Magnolia took the lead for good in the bottom half with six runs.

Kendall McMahen homered off of Dayton May, driving in two runs; Taylor Yates doubled, driving in two runs; and Alex Whaley doubled off, driving in two runs.

Magnolia's six-run fifth inning was driven by a walk by Yates, single by Bailey Ladner, an error, single by Whaley, and a groundout by Karlee Strickland.

Caitlyn McCormack earned the win in the circle for Magnolia. She went seven innings, surrendering four runs, 13 hits, striking out five, and walking one.

May took the loss for Genoa Central. She threw six innings, surrendering 12 runs, and 13 hits.

Whaley, Hannah Brigham, and McMahen each collected multiple hits for Magnolia.

Yates and Whaley each drove in three runs.

Magnolia didn't commit any errors in the field. Grace Basinger had six chances in the field, the most on the team.

Genoa Central was led by Britney Carter, Kelsey Mattson, Hannah Vanderbilt, May, and Madison Banister. All had multiple hits.

In the loss against Taylor, the Lady Tigers scored four runs in the sixth inning off a groundout, error and double.

Basinger took the loss for Magnolia. She threw seven innings, allowing six runs, nine hits, and striking out six. Strickland, McMahen, Yates, Basinger, and Whaley each collected one hit to lead Magnolia.

Taylor collected nine hits on the day.

The Lady Panthers are scheduled to host Camden Fairview at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
