MONDAY - March 27

T.I.P., a community prayer gathering sponsored by the Magnolia Minister’s Network, will meet Monday at 6 p.m. in the Magnolia City Council chambers on Pine Street. All are invited to come pray for our community.

The Hempstead County Master Gardeners Spring Seminar will be held at Hempstead Hall from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Early registration is $10 or $15 at the door. For more information, call the Hempstead County Extension Office at 870-777-5771.

TUESDAY - March 28

Greers Chapel United Methodist Church of Magnolia will hold its Laundry Love Event at Main Street Laundry in Magnolia 5:30-7:30 p.m. Coins and laundry detergent will be provided for 3 normal loads of clothes per family.

The City of Magnolia reminds all business owners that today the final day to pay the business license fee. If the business is no longer in operation, please notify the city at 870-234-1375. After March 28, the city will publish a delinquent list of businesses for which the license fee has not been paid.

FACT Inc. will hold a policy council meeting at 9:30 a.m. at the FACT central office, 2720 Vine St. in El Dorado.

THURSDAY - March 30

FACT Inc. will hold a board of directors meeting at 2:45 p.m. at the FACT central office, 2720 Vine St. in El Dorado.

SAU’s Performing Arts Series will present musicians from the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra in concert at 7:30 p.m. in Oliver Recital Hall in Dolph Camp Hall. Featured works will be Haydn’s “Emperor” Quartet and Brahms’ Sextet in B-flat. Harpist Alisa Coffey will also perform several solo selections. The concert is free and open to the public.

FRIDAY - March 31

A Forestry Best Management Practices Workshop and Field Tour will be held at the Springhill Country Club (26746 Hwy 371, Cullen, La.) from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. The workshop is free and recommended for all loggers, foresters, landowners, and anyone who would like to know more about this topic. Six BMP credit hours (honored in both Louisiana and Arkansas) will be awarded. Lunch will be provided and space is limited, so participants must pre-register. SATURDAY - April 1

The City of McNeil, along with the Festival on the Rails, will hold a city-wide clean up beginning at 10 a.m. Please meet in front of the city hall for more information.

Philadelphia United Methodist Church, on Burnt Bridge Road, will hold an All-U-Can-Eat Fish Fry from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the church’s fellowship hall. Adult prices are $14.00 and kids, 12 and under, $5.00. Meals include fish with all the trimmings and dessert. Take-outs avaliable. Everyone is welcome.

Making Magnolia Blossom’s Big Splash Saturday check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. at the SAU duck pond near the tennis courts. Volunteering begins at 9 a.m. and runs through 11:30 a.m. For more information or to register by phone, call Deana Taylor at (870) 235-4922.

First United Methodist Church of Magnolia will have a Spring Cleaning Sale from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the church parking lot. All proceeds will go to support the FUMC Child Devlopment Center and FUMC Youth Mission projects. Furniture, home decor, and miscellaneous items will be sold (no clothing). All sales will occur at the event — no holds, no phone calls, cash only.

MONDAY - April 3

At 6:30 p.m. in the Panther Café, 108 Magnolia High School students with a 3.5 cumulative grade point average will be honored at the 23rd annual Magnolia High School Scholars’ Banquet, coordinated by the Downtown Magnolia District and Magnolia Columbia County Chamber of Commerce.

TUESDAY - April 4

The South Arkansas Historical Preservation Society is pleased to offer a mini quilting workshop on April 4, just in time for the Union County Quilters Guild annual “Festival of Quilts Show” on April 8. Join Trisha Nash and Betsy Welch at the Newton House Museum from 9 to 11 a.m. for a quilting workshop. The cost for the class is only $10 per person and includes your supplies. All you have to bring are some basic sewing items like thread, needles, and scissors. Call 870-862-9890 for more information.

WEDNESDAY - April 5

The Columbia County Alzheimer’s/Dementia support group will meet at 1:30 p.m. in the Columbia County Library board room. John Ross, elder law attorney, will be the presenter.

St. James Episcopal Church, 901 Highland Circle in Magnolia, will host a Lenten soup luncheon 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. Cost of the meal is $7, payable at the door, for a choice of one soup and one bread as well as tea or water. No deliveries or call-in orders, but take-outs will be available.

THURSDAY - April 6

The Kindergarten Center at 1501 Pittman in Magnolia will hold a Kindergarten Enrollment Clinic from 8:15 a.m. to 12 noon to allow parents of children residing in the Magnolia Public School District to officially enroll their child for the 2017-2018 school year. Documents required prior to enrollment include proof of residence in the Magnolia Public School District, state recognized proof of birth, government recognized proof of social security number, an up-to-date immunization record, and proof of a physical exam completed within two years prior to the date of enrollment. Parents are urged to have the required documents in order so that their child will be eligible to attend kindergarten in August.

FRIDAY - April 7

The Area Agency on Aging of Southwest Arkansas, Inc., will host a free “Be Well - Live Well With Diabetes” workshop in Magnolia on Fridays between April 7 and May 12. Classes will be 10-11:30 a.m. at the AAA Annex, 600 Columbia 11 East in Magnolia. The program is free, but registration is required. SATURDAY - April 8

The Brister Baptist Church Youth Group is hosting a smoked chicken fundraising lunch 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on the courthouse square. Tickets are $10 each and the meal includes smoked chicken quarter, baked beans, potato salad, drink, and dessert. Sponsored by Summit Health and Rehabilitation. For more information call Bro. The Northwest Louisiana Master Gardeners will have their Spring Plant Sale from 8 a.m. until 12 noon at the Randle T. Moore Center, 3101 Fairfield Avenue in Shreveport.
