Panthers cruise past Walnut Ridge 15-2

Magnolia Spring Break Baseball Tournament

Magnolia won its opening game 15-2 over Walnut Ridge in the annual Spring Break Tournament being played at Panther Field.

The Panthers (9-0) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. They added five in the third and eight in the fourth.

Both teams were plagued with errors. Walnut Ridge made five and Magnolia committed three.

Matt Goodheart was the winning pitcher for the Panthers. The senior went four innings, allowing no runs or hits and striking out seven batters.

Adam Pieratt pitched a third inning, allowing two runs (one earned).

Connor Harrington finished the game on the mound by recording two outs on two pitches.

Walnut Ridge's Kai Cunningham took the loss, giving up 11 hits, three walks and six earned runs.

Magnolia had 11 hits on the day, with Goodheart leading the way with three, which included a pair of doubles.

Jay French and Dayton Dickson had two hits apiece, with Payton Campbell, Harrington and Brooks Lynch adding one each.

One of French's hit was a triple.

Regarding RBIs, Goodheart led with four and Dickson followed with three. Drake and Lynch had two apiece.

Other opening round games included Camden Fairview 7, Genoa 6; Hot Springs Lakeside 14, Smackover 4; Camden Fairview 12, Parkers Chapel 2; Malvern 7, Warren 1; and Malvern 11, Taylor 1.

Magnolia will play Malvern at 6 p.m. today in the semifinals of the tournament at Panther Field.

All games for today have been moved up one hour because of the threat of rain.

9 a.m. - Genoa vs. Smackover.

11:15 a.m. - Walnut Ridge vs. Warren.

1:30 p.m. - Parkers Chapel vs Taylor.

3:45 p.m. - Camden Fairview vs. Lakeside.
