Magnolia competes at annual Oil Belt Relays

Annual Panther Relays scheduled for Thursday, March 30

EL DORADO - The Magnolia Panthers placed second in the annual Oil Belt Relays at El Dorado last week, while the Lady Panthers finished fourth.

The Panthers scored 106 1/2 points, behind Arkansas High’s 142 1/2. Haynesville, La., was third with 95 points followed by Prescott’s 69 1/2 for fourth place.

Other schools included Genoa Central (39 1/2), El Dorado (34), Trinity Christian (25), Lafayette County (20), Ashdown (18), Camden Fairview (17), Parkview (16), Pine Bluff (15), Sheridan (13), Hamburg (12), Parkers Chapel (8), Monticello (7), Glenbrook (6), Bearden (5), Watson Chapel (5), Smackover (3).

In the 3,200m run, Magnolia took the top three spots with John Barham finishing first, Patrick Daniel second and Cameron Wooton third. The 4x800m relay team of Barham, Daniel, Wooton and Andre Ewell also captured first place with a time of 8:49.04.

For the girls, Genoa Central (125 1/2) placed first, ahead of Arkansas High (109) and Sheridan (99). Magnolia was fourth with 75 points. Other team totals included El Dorado (68), Haynesville (41), Hamburg (26), Camden Fairview (25), Parkview (24), Ashdown (19), Monticello (15 1/2), Smackover (8), Glenbrook (5), Pine Bluff (5), Prescott (4) and Claiborne Academy (2).

The only first-place finisher for the Lady Panthers was Takayla Ellison, who tossed the shot 39 feet, one-half inch.

Magnolia’s track & field teams will host the annual Panther Relays on March 30 and then compete at the Scrapper Relays on April 4.
