Local Dolphins place first, second in annual SASA Meet of Champs

Ellington, Reeves earn special MDST recognition

EL DORADO - The 2017 summer swim season for the Magnolia Dolphins has come to an end.

On Saturday, the Dolphins competed in the South Arkansas Swim Association (SASA) Meet of Champs in El Dorado. The MDST summer-only swimmers placed first with 770 points, followed in second place by Monticello and El Dorado third. MDST's year-round swimmers placed second with 525.5 points, behind first place El Dorado. Warren finished third.

Individual Dolphins placing first, second or third in all their events were Sophie Ellington, Olivia Ferguson, Aaron Hartsfield, Julia Lister, Bailey McCook, Makynzie Powell, Carter Pyle, Logan Riley, Hayden Rogers, Grant Wiggins, and Liz Wilson.

Dolphin relay teams placing first included the following:

• 8-and-under girls medley (Trystan Westfall, Charlie Watson, Julia Lister, Adelynn Bonds).

• 10-and-under girls medley (Sophia Riley, Addison Boyd, Sophie Ellington, Makynzie Powell).

• 10-and-under boys medley (Collin Panter, Quinn Young, Connor Waters, Grant Wiggins).

• 11- and 12-year-old boys medley (Jackson Lister, Riley McCook, Kenny Zhao, Drew Mickey).

• 13- and 14-year-old girls medley (Olivia Ferguson, Natalie Boyd, Liz Wilson, Erin Kaye Daniel).

• 13- and 14-year-old boys medley (Hayden Rogers, Bailey McCook, Logan Riley, Isaiah Williams).

• 15- to 18-year-old boys medley (Carter Pyle, JD Oldham, Aaron Hartsfield, David Cheng).

The 200m freestyle relays that took first-place honors included:

• 8-and-under girls (Trystan Westfall, Charlie Watson, Julia Lister, Adelynn Bonds).

• 10-and-under girls (Sophia Riley, Addison Boyd, Sophie Ellington, Makynzie Powell).

• 11-and 12-year-old girls (Emma Rose Riley, Kathryn Vatzlavick, Elaina Reeves, Ashlyn Middleton).

• 11- and 12-year-old boys (Jackson Lister, Riley McCook, Kenny Zhao, Drew Mickey).

• 13- and 14-year-old girls (Olivia Ferguson, Natalie Boyd, Liz Wilson, Erin Kaye Daniel).

• 13- and 14-year-old boys (Hayden Rogers, Bailey McCook, Logan Riley, Isaiah Williams).

• 15- to 18-year-0ld boys medley (Carter Pyle, Carwin Edwards, Aaron Hartsfield, David Cheng).

MDST also held its annual High Point Awards ceremony on Sunday.

Top 10 summer season point earners included Sophie Ellington, Olivia Ferguson, Logan Riley, Caroline Daniel, Gillyan Pacheco, Liz Wilson, Bailey McCook, Sophia Riley, Ashlyn Middleton, JD Oldham.

Age group winners included the following:

• 8-and-under, Adelynn Bond and Connor Deloach.

• 10-and-under, Sophie Ellington and Connor Waters.

• 12-and-under, Caroline Daniel and Riley McCook.

• 13-14 age group, Olivia Ferguson and Logan Riley.

• 15- 18 age group, Abbie Young and JD Oldham.

The high-point winner was Sophie Ellington with 165 individual points earned during the season.

The Grant Pyle Sportsmanship plaque was awarded to Amya Reeves. The award is voted on by MDST swimmers. MDST continues to support Pyle and all that he did for the team.
