Bridge closed in northeast Arkansas after gas line struck

POCAHONTAS, Ark. (AP) — The Highway 67 bridge over the Black River at Pocahontas is closed after a construction crew struck a gas line.

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department reports the bridge was closed about 5 p.m. Tuesday because of natural gas leaking and Pocahontas Police Chief Cecil Tackett told KAIT (http://bit.ly/2u7sP3J ) that it may be closed until about 9 p.m.

Tackett did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment and it wasn't clear whether evacuations were ordered.

The transportation department said an energy company is on the scene to assess the damage.
