The Magnolia Planning Commission heard three variance requests Monday evening in the City Council Chambers at its regular monthly meeting.

Brian Briggs requested a variance to place a mobile home on a lot at 129 Strickland Circle, which is located within a C2 commercial zone. After a short discussion between the panel and Briggs about the matter, no commissioner brought forth a motion to grant the variance; therefore no change was made.

MD & CW Properties requested a variance to place a mobile home in a C3 commercial zone at 421 Columbia Street. After commissioners discussed the matter with MD & CW Properties representatives, a motion was brought forth to grant the variance. The request was defeated by a commissioner vote of 4 to 2.

MD & CW Properties also requested a variance to place a second structure on an existing lot at 741 West Main Street which already contained a structure. After a lengthy discussion among commissioners, no motion was brought forth to grant the variance. The motion was not granted.

The next Magnolia Planning Commission meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday, August 21, in the Magnolia City Council Chambers at 245 North Pine Street.
