EDITORIAL

Your Magnolia Banner-News works every day to bring you trustworthy, informative and factual (we stress “factual”) reporting.

Our capable news staff of reporters and editors work hard not only to provide you, the reader, with timely news, but we also investigate issues important to the community and put them in the clearest context possible.

In this day of constantly changing technology, it is a challenge for newspaper staffs to sift through the astounding amount of information generated each day to bring you the most factual, most informative news. That is a challenge for us and all journalists and one that we take very seriously.

The Banner-News is committed to being your voice in Magnolia and Columbia County. When we expose a wrong or need in the community, it leads to changes and resolutions. When we tap into the energy of this great town and county, we help to spread that energy and the changes it can bring throughout the community.

The Banner-News has often been recognized by The Associated Press and Arkansas Press Association for our news reporting accomplishments, from news of the day to sports, features, opinions, and coverage of all types of community happenings. We are understandably proud of such recognition and view it as encouragement to continue to do the best job we can.

We need help to be the best newspaper we can be. That help comes in the form of support from subscribers and advertisers. That support makes it financially possible to continue this journalistic mission.

But subscriptions and advertisers are not the only support helping hometown newspapers such as ours thrive as important sources of information in the community. We benefit every day from input provided by our readers that may include tips about issues that need to be investigated, news of accomplishments in our area schools, work by the local leaders to best serve the public, happenings in the local churches, or … well, you get the idea. Small hometown newspapers such as the Banner-News, perhaps more than our counterparts in large municipalities, are able to connect with all facets of the community. That enables us, with your help, to tell all the news of our town and county, from major news events to information about items of particular interest to you and your family.

We are proud of being the beacon of information and truth in this community but it is a team effort, and you are a valued member of the team.
