There will be a CADC LIHEAP Day at the CW Easter Building located at 902 E McKissack in Waldo from 8:30 a.m. until 12 noon. Then beginning on Monday, July 17, the applications will be accepted at the CADC Office at 1503 North Vine St. in Magnolia on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, from 8 a.m. until 12 noon. First St. in Stephens, will serve fish plates with all the trimmings (fries, hushpuppies, cake) and a drink for $7.50, and fish sandwiches for $2.50 each, beginning at 12 noon. The Columbia County Library will present a musical performance by Brian and Terri Kinder at 2 p.m. as the finale of the Summer Reading Program, “Build a Better World.” All age children are invited to join the fun!

WEDNESDAY - July 19

Columbia/Lafayette Retired Teachers will meet at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Bus Depot. Guest speaker will be Jenny Williams, activities director for Hope Landing in El Dorado. Hope Landing is an organization that serves special needs children using horeseback riding, etc. Donations of cleaning supplies, used for animals, or monetary donations will be accepted.

Harvest Regional Food Bank will distribute USDA commodities directly from their truck 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Seniors 65 and older will be served first, starting at 10 a.m., followed by those younger than 65. The truck will be parked at the C.W. Easter Recreation Center located at 902 E. McKissack St. in Waldo. MONDAY- July 31

Emerson Elementary School will host a Kindergarten Camp 8-11 a.m. today and tomorrow for all incoming kindergarteners for 2017-2018. The purpose of this camp is to get your child acquainted with the elementary campus, routines and procedures, and his or her teacher. As you arrive in the morning, please bring your child to the elementary library. At this time a parent orientation will be held to inform you of school expectations and procedures. Village Community Center will hold its annual steak supper from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 and must be bought or reserved in advance. Meal includes steak, desserts, and trimmings. LifeShare is having a blood drive 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at Lafayette County High School, 712 Chestnut Street in Lewisville. The blood drive is part of LifeShare Blood Centers’ 2017-2018 LifeScholars program. The program is designed to honor students who demonstrate community service and leadership by becoming regular blood donors.
