Area 15 Special Olympics Polar Plunge to be held Mar. 3

‘Freezin’ for a reason’

The annual Area 15 Special Olympics Polar Plunge will be Friday, March 3, at the Southern Arkansas University Armory Pond. Registration will be at 11:30 a.m., with the plunge at 12 noon. The awards ceremony will immediately follow.

The Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations, and businesses to support Special Olympic athletes by taking an icy dip in the frigid waters of the SAU Armory Pond. Plungers raise money through donations from family, friends and co-workers.

For a minimum of $500 raised, the plunger will be allowed to plunge and will receive a long-sleeve T-shirt that commemorates the event. Other prizes are added as more funds are raised. In the past, Magnolia has had plunge teams from law enforcement agencies, fraternities and sororities, businesses, and university organizations as well as individuals and local community members.

Prizes will also be awarded to the plunger with the Best Individual Costume, plungers with the Best Team Costume, the Largest Fundraising Group, and the Top Individual Fundraiser. Costumes are not required but are encouraged.

The event is open to the public. All spectators are welcome free of charge. Plunge registration/donation forms are available at the Wes Weiser Gymnasium at 1616 N. Vine St. in Magnolia, or from any member of Phi Lambda Chi. For more information, call (870) 234-6118.
