Magnolia captures both district swim titles

Several athletes to compete in state meet Feb. 25 in Bentonville

ARKADELPHIA - Magnolia captured both divisions of the 2017 South District Swim Championships last week in Arkadelphia.

Teams in the South District were Magnolia, Arkadelphia, Hot Springs Lakeside, Hot Springs and Bauxite.

This was the second year for the Panthers to win the South District, while it was the first for the Lady Panthers.

The Panthers will compete Feb. 25 in the –state meet to defend their 2016 state title with four individuals who qualified to swim in two event each. They are Aaron Hartsfield, Patrick Daniel, David Cheng and Carter Pyle. All have also qualified with three relays.

The Lady Panthers have two relays that qualified for the state meet, which will be held in Bentonville.

Relays placing first at the district meet included the following:

• Girls’ 200m medley

Madalynn Vann, Ella Williams,Elise McWilliams and Rylee Barnett.

• Boys’ 200m medley

Carter Pyle, Patrick Daniel, Aaron Hartsfield and David Cheng.

• Boys’ 200m freestyle

Carter Pyle, Antonio Yambot, Patrick Daniel and Aaron Hartsfield.

• Girls’ 400m freestyle

Madalynn Vann, Ella Williams, Kaitlyn Disedare and Elise McWilliams.

Individuals who placed first or second in their events include the following:

• 200m freestyle

(Girls) First, Ella Williams; second, Elise McWilliams. (Boys) First, Patrick Daniel; second, Bailey McCook.

• 200m IM

(Girls) First, Abbie Young.

• 50m freestyle

(Girls) First, Rylee Barnett. (Boys) First, Aaron Hartsfield; second, David Cheng

• 100m butterfly

(Girls) Second, place Elise McWilliams; (Boys) Aaron Hartsfield.

• 100m freestyle

(Boys) Second, Antonio Yambot.

• 500m freestyle

(Girls) First, Madalynn Vann; second, Olivia Reeves; (Boys) First, David Cheng; second, Braden Green.

• 100m backstroke

(Girls) Second, Olivia Reeves.

• 100 breaststroke - (Girls) Second, Ella Williams.
