HOPE - The Magnolia freshmen Cubs put a stamp on their 2016 conference football championship by pounding Hope 34-6 Thursday night.
Three different running backs scored for the Cubs, who also picked up a touchdown through the air.
The 8th grade Cubs proved too much for the Wildkittens, winning 28-0.
In the freshman game, Maurice Strickland scored from the 12 at the 4:28 mark in the first period.
Halen Sanders added the PAT and the Cubs led 7-0.
Sidtraveous Hampton came up with an interception two minutess later and Demarco Walker ran 23 yards on the next play to give the Cubs a 14-0 advantage following Sanders' PAT.
Hope closed the gap to 14-6 with 7:50 to play in the second period off a 25-yard touchdown pass play. The Cub defense blocked the PAT.
With 3:44 to play in the first half, Magnolia struck again when Walker scored from the 6 to make it 20-6. Sanders' PAT was blocked.
With 30 seconds still on the clock, quarterback Braelyn Beasley and receiver Amir Cooper hooked up on a 33-yard scoring play.
Sanders' PAT was blocked again, leaving the halftime score at 26-6.
Magnolia's final score came early in the third period on an 8-yard run by Adam Pieratt.
Beasley had a 10-yard run and Strickland went up the middle for 15, before Pieratt scored.
Beasley added the two-point conversion, giving the Cubs a 34-6 lead with 5:09 on the clock.
Walker had a 26-yard run late in the third period.
In the 8th grade contest, the Cubs led 14-0 after the first period. Ethan Franks came up with an interception that led to the Cubs' second score.
James'darius Smith scored from the 7 and Robert Mack added the PAT.
In the second period, Smith had a 32-yard run that was followed by a 3-yard touchdown run by Javorrea Murphy.
Mack's PAT was no good and the Cubs led 20-0 with 1:46 to play in the first half. Rakeem Beasley came up with an interception before the first half expired.
After a scoreless third period, Magnolia got its final score on a 7-yard touchdown run by Shawn Bell. With 5:55 to play in the game, Jakamron Zachery added the two-point conversion and the Cubs were up 28-0.
The 8th and 9th grade Cubs will end the season next week at Texarkana.
