Funeral services for Michael Butler, 67, of Magnolia, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Dickie Allen Funeral Home Chapel in Cushing, Texas. Burial will follow at McKnight Cemetery, under the direction of Dickie Allen Funeral Home.

There will be a visitation from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at the funeral home in Cushing.

Pallbearers will be Keith Kinney, Kaylon Wade, Robert Daniels, Donnie Wade, Johnny Dyson, and Bradley Edington.

Mr. Butler died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, in Shreveport, La. He was born Feb. 21, 1949, in Dallas, Texas to Delton O. and Joy Mexie Boyd Butler.

He graduated from Pittsburg, Texas High School, the University of Texas at Austin, and Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas. He coached in South Garland, Pittsburg, Calallen, Beeville, and Linden-Kildare. He led his Pittsburg, Texas football team to the state title in 1980. He was the principal at Avinger and retired from Nacogdoches Schools as director of internet technology.

Mike loved football and was a Texas Longhorn fan. He also enjoyed Texas Ranger baseball. He treasured his years of coaching and teaching and had many fond memories of former students and fellow staff members in the various Texas schools where he was employed.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Joann McConnell; and his wife, Margie Kinney Butler.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Dyson Edington Butler; his daughter, Michelle Edwards and husband Travis of Austin; two sons, Bryan Taylor and wife Jilly and Brandon Taylor and Kristy of Atlanta; step-son, Bradley Edington of Patmos; six grandchildren, Dakota, Canyon, Katie, Hunter, Erin, and Emily; and two great-grandchildren, Lila and Thea.
