TUESDAY - Aug. 23

The City of Waldo will hold a special City Council meeting at 6:15 p.m. at Waldo City Hall.

The Kindergarten Center at East Side will host “Parent Night” at 5 p.m. in the individual classrooms. Classroom teachers will present parents with an overview of the kindergarten curriculum and school day schedule for their child. The meeting will last approximately 30 minutes. There will be a designated table for fathers or father figures to sign up to be a part of the WATCH DOGS program at the Kindergarten Center this year. This meeting is for parents only.

East Side Elementary School will host “Parent Night” in the individual classrooms. Parents will hear an overview of the curriculum, classroom procedures, and class schedules for their child. Parents of first grade students will attend at 5 p.m.; parents of second grade students at 5:30 p.m.; and parents of third grade students at 6 p.m. Parents should report to their child’s classroom at the assigned time. There will be a designated table for fathers or father figures to sign-up to be a part of the WATCH DOGS program at East Side Elementary this year. This meeting is for parents only.

SAU will hold “Blue and Gold Day” from 3-8 p.m. on the downtown Square. The community is encouraged to wear blue and gold in support of SAU. The event is free, with various activities for both children and adults.

WEDNESDAY - Aug. 24

Harvest Regional Food Bank will distribute USDA commodities from 10 a.m.-12 noon at the C.W. Easter Recreation Center, 902 E. McKissack St., Waldo.

There will be a dedication ceremony at 11:30 a.m. at the Magnolia Municipal Airport for the Ralph C. Weiser Field.

THURSDAY - Aug. 25

Central Elementary School will host “Parent Night” in the individual classrooms. Parents will hear an overview of the curriculum, classroom procedures, and class schedules for their child. Parents of fourth grade students should attend from 5-5:30 p.m.; parents of fifth grade students will attend from 5:30-6 p.m.; and parents of sixth grade students are scheduled from 6-6:30 p.m. There will be a designated table for fathers or father figures to sign up to be a part of the WATCH DOGS program at Central Elementary this year. This meeting is for parents only.

FRIDAY - Aug. 26

There will be a blood drive from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. in the parking lot at Magnolia Regional Medical Center.

MONDAY - Aug. 29

A ballot draw for the 2016 General Election will be at 5 p.m. in the second floor courtroom at the Columbia County Courthouse.

TUESDAY - Aug. 30

The Columbia County United Community Organization will sponsor “Step in the Name of Love” at 7 p.m. at 1113 E. Main St. (old Western Sizzlin’ parking lot) in Magnolia. This event is to help promote unity in the community. For more information, call Kizmet Davis at (870) 904-7435.

Greers Chapel United Methodist Church of Magnolia will hold its Laundry Love event at Main Street Laundry from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Coins and detergent will be provided for 3 normal loads of clothes per family.

Circle of Friends Magnolia Chapter will host a membership drive at 6:30 p.m. at El Compadre Restaurant, 2430 N. Dudney Rd., Magnolia. Anyone interested in helping us raise funds for Arkansas Children’s Hospital is welcome to attend.

The Columbia County Farmers Market is open from 7 a.m.-12 noon at the corner of Stadium and N. Vine St. in Magnolia.

SATURDAY - Sept. 10

Logoly State Park is offering a hunter education course Sept. 10-11. Saturday classes are from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. You must attend all scheduled classes and pass the final exam to complete the course. The course is recommended for individuals 11 years of age and up. It is free of charge but class size is limited so pre-registration is required. Call (870) 695-3561 to register.
