The Magnolia Police Department is investigating a shooting incident Monday night that involved a city employee.

According to a statement from MPD this morning, the incident occurred around 9 p.m. Monday in the 700 block of Lucy Circle. When officers arrived they found two victims that had been shot. Both victims were transported to Magnolia Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Orlando Brewer, 24, of Magnolia, was arrested in connection with this incident and has been charged with battery second degree. According to MPD Chief Glenn Maxwell, Brewer is the newly-hired animal control officer for the city. Maxwell said he has been on the job for two to three weeks.

Brewer is currently in the Columbia County Detention Center awaiting a first appearance hearing.

The investigation is continuing.

Multiple police, including Columbia County Sheriff's and SAU Police, responded to the incident.

Two people were transported from the residence on stretchers via ambulances and one man was seen being placed under arrest. The residence was taped off with crime-scene tape but later the tape was removed. Officers could be seen using flashlights to search the yard of the residence. None of the officers on the scene would comment.
