The Arkansas State Highway Commission has approved a bid for improvements to roadways in the City of McNeil, according to the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department. The purpose of the project is to resurface 1.6 miles of roadway.

Magnolia Wastewater Commission was scheduled to meet at 2 p.m. today.

The Magnolia City Council will meet at 5 p.m. today in the council chambers. The agenda includes a presentation by “Make Magnolia Blossom,” appointment of Julia Nipper to the Magnolia Planning Commission, and a resolution in support of the Golden Triangle.

It was announced Friday by U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and John Boozman that the Magnolia Municipal Airport will receive $200,907 to install an automatic weather observing system, that will enhance the safety and efficiency of aircraft operations by providing accurate, current, and site-specific weather information. Four Arkansas airports are sharing over $1.3 million from the Federal Aviation Administration to support facility upgrades and expansions. This funding is supported by the FY14 omnibus appropriations bill, which was signed into law in January.

In Thursday’s Banner-News, the Diary failed to include that U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin, candidate for lieutenant governor, will be on hand at the Columbia County Republicans grand opening celebration and meet/greet for candidates. This will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Union Street Station. Also scheduled to be on hand are Doyle Webb, chairman of the Republican Party of Arkansas; candidates Rep. Bruce Westerman, U.S. Congress 4th District; Leslie Rutledge, attorney general; Dennis Milligan, state treasurer; and Selena Blair, Columbia County treasurer. Hot dogs, soft drinks, and cookies will be served.

The Columbia County Circuit Clerk’s Office will be closed Wednesday, Sept. 24, due to construction.
