LETTER

Reader thankful for community

Recently, I had a late-evening experience that made me very thankful to live in our wonderful community of Magnolia. I had stopped in Stage department store to pick up an item. When I came out and started to drive away, a young man, Jalai Jones, and his friend, Shamile Rowe, started frantically waving at me to stop. When I got out to look, I saw my right rear tire was flat, sitting on the rim. I had been on my cell phone with a friend and she drove right over to help.

Jalai and I started look through the car manual and also calling my insurance roadside assistance. Meanwhile, my friend spotted a police vehicle in the parking lot. This was Heather Colquitt with the SAU Police Department. Jalai and Heather went to work on locating and releasing the spare tire and finding the car’s jack. They told me to tell roadside assistance we did not need them.

Next, two Magnolia police officers, Joseph Jones and Emily Palermo, drove up and also began helping. What a team! In a short time, they had the flat tire off and the spare on. Jalai and Shamile insisted on following me home to make certain I got there safely. I am positive that if I had been in a parking lot in the big city, none of this would have happened. I want to publicly thank the good citizens and very helpful, friendly law enforcement officers for their good deed that evening. Heather even had to crawl under the car to wrestle the spare out. Jalai, Shamile, Heather, Joseph and Emily, thank you again for your help and Merry Christmas to each of you.
