Diary for Tuesday

Diary was surprised no mention was made by aldermen or the mayor of the situation at the city pound Monday night during the City Council meeting. We were also surprised no one concerned about the welfare of impounded dogs turned up to raise questions or ask for an update. Speculation is that the pound issue is “over.” We hope that is not the case.

The candlelight service held Sunday night for slain SAU student Brandon Hobdy and former SAU student Wayne Payton was a beautiful event, filled with heartfelt memorials for the victims. It was an unexpectedly tragic beginning for the 2014-2015 semester. We hope the university will pull together as an even more tightly-knit family as a result.

Gov. Mike Beebe announced the appointment of Chris Gilliam, Banner-News sports editor, to the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board. His appointment expires May 1, 2020. Gilliam replaces Kaneaster Hodges.
